Walking in Provence - Hiking and Walking Holidays

Walking in Provence can offer a wide choice of guided tours and guided walks on varied routes. When, or even before you arrive for your Provence walking holiday, we are happy to discuss your perfect walking tour and tailor your day's activities to suit you to ensure your walking trip is successful!

We can offer half-day or full day hiking trips or walking tours. Let us know the distance preferred and the level of difficulty and we will recommend the best walking route.

Our walking tours include walks and hikes around here in Maussane, Le Paradou and Les Baux de Provence- you do not even have to move the car for these local walking routes!


Very popular are walks in the Camargue and to the 'mouths of the Rhone' river- or 'Les Bouches du Rhone' which is the name of our department here in southern France. You will see the inevitable white Camargue horses, black bulls and lots of pink flamingos on the salt marshes and sand dunes.

 

As enthusiastic walkers ourselves we are happy to offer organised guided walks for our guests or recommend a wide variety of self-guided walking holidays and hiking vacations in the south of France. Beautiful, scenic Provence walking tours start just minutes by foot from the villa. The Alpilles or 'little mountains' are now a National protected park-the Parc Natural Régional des Alpilles- with the head-quarters at nearby St Remy de Provence

A typical week's walking tour around Provence would be:

Arrive Saturday- transfer provided from Avignon, Nimes or Marseille airports or Arles or Avignon TGV / SNCF train stations. Afternoon spent discussing the walking trips proposed for your hiking holiday followed by delicious three course dinner on the villa's balcony with great Provence countryside views.

Sunday- after breakfast a gentle start with a walking tour around our village of Maussane and returning via the foothills of the Alpilles looking down on the Villa.
Lunch on the village square with afternoon relaxing by the heated pool at the villa or snoozing on a hammock up in our private woodlands in the sculpture garden.
Dinner again on our balcony.

Monday- after breakfast a full walking day in the Alpilles with packed lunch provided. Dinner at the Villa after a well-earned swim and perhaps an aperitif in our woodland sculpture garden.

Tuesday- after breakfast, a full day's wine tour to Chateauneuf du Pape with wine-tasting at several vineyards. Picnic in the castle ruins with wonderful views towards Avignon and the Ventoux mountain-range. Walking tour to further vineyards and finally to a chocolate factory for more tastings! Return for dinner at the Villa.

Wednesday- after breakfast, a walking tour of the Camargue with a picnic-lunch on one of the many sandy beaches with a visit to Aigues Mortes- a fine Mediaeval walled town. Dinner back at the villa- from Pizza Brun, who make the finest Pizzas we know of!
